Home MenuEconomic Development Program
The goal of KDOT’s Economic Development Program is to fund transportation improvements that attract new businesses to Kansas and support the growth of existing ones.
Application and Eligibility
Communities can apply for assistance with any transportation improvement that supports job growth and capital investment. All transportation modes are eligible, including roadways (both on and off the state system), rail, airports, and public transit. Typical projects include access roads, turning lanes, and rail spurs.
Project Requirements
Eligible projects must:
- Address a transportation issue, such as promoting safety, improving access or mobility, or reducing congestion.
- Support a new or expanding non-speculative business (not intended for future business recruitment).
- Have basic infrastructure like water and utilities in place or imminent.
- Create new jobs and capital investment in Kansas, without transferring business from one part of the state to another.
- Have the support of local leaders, such as elected officials or a chamber of commerce.
Approval Process
- If a project is critical for recruiting a new business to the state, a decision will be made within 30 days.
- Non-time-sensitive projects will be pooled and selected annually as funding becomes available.
Funding
A minimum local match of 25% is preferred.
