  • Send alerts on high wind, low visibility and ice/snow road conditions
  • Operate on Amazon Alexa home speaker and app
  • Integrate with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • Enhance detour information
  • Improve sharing of information for work zones

These enhancements are described in more detail below. The new enhancements were developed as part of the U.S. 83 Advanced Technology Project.

Display Oversized Truck Locations (U.S. 83 Corridor Only)

This feature can be toggled on and off in the website and mobile app for motorists to see the real-time location of oversize vehicles on U.S. 83. My KanDrive users can also receive text, email, and/or push notifications if a load is traveling in their saved route or area. This enhancement is only currently available on U.S. 83 in Thomas, Logan, Scott and Finney Counties.

Oversize load companies and drivers can use this Help Guide to view the steps it takes to register their oversize load before travelling on U.S. 83.

Push alerts can also be activated on your phone to notify drivers of various conditions in their area. Push notifications can be set up in the user profile.

When the app is open, this feature gives motorists real-time voice alerts to warn about conditions like high wind speeds, low visibility, and compromised road conditions such as ice or snow. Voice alerts can be activated using the “Tell Me” button when using the app. In addition, users can receive text, email and push notifications for their saved routes and areas when setting up a user profile on My KanDrive.

Operate on Amazon Alexa Home Speaker and App

This new Alexa skill feature allows KanDrive users to ask Amazon Alexa about information along a route that KanDrive monitors just by using their voice. For example, users can say "Alexa, ask KanDrive what’s happening between Wichita and Topeka." This is feature is available on the Alexa app or an Alexa home devise. View video below for more details.

Integrate with Apple CarPlay

Just start your KanDrive App and connect your phone to the vehicle.

Integrate with Android Auto (COMING SOON!)

This feature allows users with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to use limited features of the mobile app on their dash by connecting their smartphone to their car. Users can connect their phone to the vehicle via Bluetooth or chord. The app will then be visible on the dashboard and can be selected to start using the features. Users will hear announcements for upcoming alerts or detours as they drive.

Enhance Detour Information

Toggle on/off detour information by clicking on the “Layers” button and then checking “Construction”. Tap on a construction point to then view detour information.

This feature enhances how alternate routes, or detours, are presented to the public. If using the Trip Planner tool and construction is on the scheduled route, the route will automatically follow the KDOT approved detour.

Improve Sharing of Information for Work Zones

This new feature allows KanDrive to share its work zone information with third party systems for use in their applications (e.g., Connected and Autonomous Vehicles, etc.). This feature will not be visible to KanDrive users.
