Project Description
The project involves replacing the U.S. 54 bridge over the Walnut River on the eastern edge of El Dorado. The bridge is located about 0.55 miles east of the U.S. 54 and U.S. 77 junction. The replacement design must consider the BNSF railroad overpass that crosses U.S. 54.
KDOT has started a Discovery Phase Project to explore various alternatives in collaboration with the City of El Dorado, Butler County, and BNSF. The new bridge lanes will be built to the south of the existing lanes, allowing the current section to remain open during construction.
The goal is to replace the bridge with a sustainable design that meets the functional and structural needs of KDOT, Butler County, El Dorado, and the surrounding region.
