Eastbound U.S. 54 ramp to I-135 northbound to close July 23

Post Date:07/22/2024

The exit ramp from eastbound U.S. 54 to northbound I-135 will close on Tuesday, July 23, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

The closure is necessary for a project that will involve milling, patching and a concrete overlay being placed on each side consecutively. Rehabilitation work on the bridge will occur Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Motorists should follow the signed detour on southbound I-135 to exit 5A and E Lincoln Street, then turn right on northbound I-135 to west Kellogg exit 5B.

Work on this bridge is one of four phases in the bridge rehabilitation project scheduled this year at the I-135/U.S. 54 interchange. The bridge work will take place consecutively. This will be the third phase of the bridge and is set to conclude in October, then the fourth bridge phase and closures will begin. It is estimated the last bridge in the four-phase project will conclude by late November, conditions permitting.

During construction, motorists are advised to stay alert and watch out for construction workers. Wildcat Construction, of Wichita KS, is the primary contractor for the $1,348,537.60 project. KDOT urges all motorists to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and driving through a highway work zone. To stay aware of all road construction projects across Kansas, go to www.kandrive.gov or call 5-1-1.
